Welcome to Western Mass No Kids

So you're not a Soccer Mom or a Softball Dad. In fact you have no children at all - for whatever reason - you are childless. You have drifted apart from your friends because their schedules, their conversations, their lives ... evolve around their children. Now they seem more like acquaintances than friends. You feel alone, perhaps an outcast from society in general because - for whatever reason - you are childless. You are not alone - we're not kidding. Western Mass No Kids is a social club for adults who, for any reason, have never had children. Come and meet new friends and enjoy conversations that won't make you feel like an outcast. Best of all, no one will ever cancel out because they can't find a babysitter. If you'd like to get in touch with the us to join: E-mail: info(at)westernmassnokidding(dot)org

Bowling and a Sad Adieu

Event RecapA little over a year from that last time, six Western Mass. No Kids members showed up to give bowling at the AMF Chicopee center a second try. SirGeek and CallieMo had the advantage of being league bowlers, but LumLum, John, Peggy and Dave hadn't bowled since the last gathering.

The Story of Greater Western Mass No Kids

Site NewsIf you’re like me, you may have found yourself occasionally thinking, ‘I know lots of people but I don’t have any friends.’ OK, we have friends but don’t think of them as friends. They were friends at one time but once they had kids not only did their lives change, so did ours. Countless books and experts will tell expectant parents “once the baby arrives your lives will change forever”. Unfortunately, nobody warned the rest of us. I hate to make the comparison, but just like victims of crime, there are victims of baby. A horrible crime not only affects the victim, but its family, its friends, etc. from the moment the crime happens onward. Once a friend of yours has a baby and you remain without child your lives change forever as well. You are indulged with talk of diapers, illnesses, schoolwork, etc. and suddenly you may as well be on another planet. A late friend of mine (who was also childfree) once told me a story of how she reunited with an old college friend (a parent) for dinner and a movie. At the end of the night this old friend said to her, “It was great to get out tonight and have a conversation with an adult for a change.” My friend told me, “I don’t think she realized that all she talked about for the entire evening was her kids!” On January 17, 2004, The Greater Westfield Chapter of No Kids held its first meeting at a small coffee shop in a gas station in Southwick. Of the five people attending, one couple said, “By the way, we have our own server, we’d be happy to run a website for you. Maybe we should change the name to Greater Western Mass?” And so we came to be (thanks to CallieMo and Sir Geek!) As we approach our one-year anniversary, I have learned that there is a need throughout our area and beyond for people who want friends that are childfree. I was contacted by a woman who is grandparent age and she’s looking for friends who aren’t always talking about their grandchildren. I was contacted by a male reporter who wanted to attend one of our meetings and said he was a parent and missed his freedom; if he were to do it all over again, he would not have children. We are not child hate-mongers. Several members of our group are teachers. We are people, who for whatever reason, have never parented and merely want to socialize with similar people. I have met some really nice people this past year and look forward to meeting many more. In order for this chapter to continue, group effort must be maintained, both in participating and helping plan events. Wishing you many new childfree friendships in 2005, Linda Coordinator Greater Western Massachusetts No Kids

What Do You Get...

Event Recapwhen you take seven people, two bowling lanes and two hours time? Fun, and plenty of it. On May 1, 2004 seven brave souls from Western Mass. No Kids gathered at the AMF Chicopee bowling center to partake of an AMF "Fun Pack" experience. The concept had been suggested by Linda and Matt (aka CallieMo and SirGeek here on the site) who have been bowling on a league for about two years now. The rest of the gang: Linda (aka Lumlum on the site, who is the WMNK coordinator), John, Peg, Dave and Mike all had not bowled in many years.
